As a committed family member of the “Spirit-Filled” community, it is my desire to bring word-based analysis to charismatic leaders, prophetic words, and doctrinal issues as a means of being obediently faithful to Judes imperative:
” CONTEND FOR THE FAITH”
The book of Jude remains one of the most” non-referenced” sources of the charismatic world today. Jude conveys a heart to write about the Common Salvation[the joy, benefits and blessings], but conditions were so dire that he found it necessary to shift focus to that of “Defender of the Faith” [address teachers and their teachings that compromised the integriy of organic truth that foundationed New Covenant faith].
It is our intent to put forth a “good faith effort” toward contending that honors the inspired writings of Jude . While it would be truly great to solely focus on the blessings and benefits of Christ salvific work, Jude reveals that “undestanding of the times” calls for a redemptive shift in focus from the positive to the negative as essential to the maturing of the saints and preservation of historic-Apostolic truth.

I’m having a difficult time deciding if this is right or not.

Richard,
Greetings! Don’t know if you remember me or not but I was a student at CFNI in 88-90, on staff with Editorial 90-91, and then went to Mercy Ships from 91-93 (you were one of my faithful financial supporters!)
If any of this rings a bell, please feel free to drop an e-mail to me. It would be great to catch up.
Blessings,
-David

Hey Rev,
Sent email through CFNI few weeks ago and hoped to reconnect. Where “in the world” are you now and what “in the kingdom” are you doing? Would certainly enjoy an update bro.

Prof Hanner,
Nice looking blog you’ve got here. I like your recommended books, especially Keith Mathison’s work on the Lord’s Supper.
One question: back in your days at CFNI, were you a “Closet Calvinist?”
Your blogroll certainly looks as if you are currently “Reformed Charismatic”. Great seeing you within the blogosphere contending for the faith!

Thanks for the comment Erik.
Yep, I am “Essentially Reformed” and was even back in the CFNI days. Always emphasized Sovereignty of God in Soteriology with the 5 Sola’s. I use the term “essentially” because do not equate Reformed with 5 point Calvinism, do not practice infant baptism, am not a cessationist and I still believe in 5 fold gifts.
Shout!

I always knew you were a ‘Closet Calvinist’ while teaching @ CFNI.
Your “under-the-radar reformed lingo” in Corinthians and Acts almost gave you away. Now that I look back over a decade ago, I remember a few instances when your emphasis was heavily on the Sovereignty of God in salvation. Speaking of sovereignty, have you read J.I. Packer’s book “Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God”? A modern day classic if you ask me.
Thanks for teaching with clarity, passion and yes, God-centeredness while focusing on God and His Word above personal experiences during your time @ CFNI. You were definitely my favorite prof. Are you currently pastoring? If so, could you send me your web address so I can examine your sermons for heresy, prosperity teachings and cult like tendancies.
Soli Deo Gloria!
